Where is the perspective on Penny Wong?

In A lure for ‘dumb’ gay snipers, Samantha Maiden from The Australian penned a pointed critique on the gay community's reception to Penny Wong's expressed stance on gay marriage. Besides exposing the racial prejudice of some in the gay community, her article seeks to remind supporters of gay marriage that Realpolitk triumphs blind activism.


Even though I think the kind of activism manifested by Bob Brown and his fellow gay activists is important to keep the issue in the public discourse, the gay community needs to beware that their activism may backfire amongst some conservative demographics when LGBT issues become tarred with the same brush as far left ideologies. Conservative voters tend to have more sympathy for those whom they deem to be level-headed and, unsurprisingly, conservative in their modus operandi.
